For Immediate Release

On Wednesday, October 17, 2007, at approximately 12:30 p.m. a call was received by Vernon Middle School administration threatening a shooting at the school.  Washington County Sheriff’s Office School Resource officers immediately placed both Vernon Middle and Vernon High School on lockdown as is policy and procedure for such incidents.  Deputies with the Washington County Sheriff’s office secured both schools and conducted a thorough search of both campuses. 

Due to an already scheduled early release day, buses arrived at the school and students were released without incident at approximately 1:30 p.m.  This is an ongoing investigation and details will be released as they become available.
