Friday, March 30, 2007 Article Courtesy of Chipley Bugle Federal, state and local law enforcement and correctional officers from across the State of Florida are participating in the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run to support Special Olympics Florida. The Torch Run will travel over 1,500 miles along five planned routes. Each route will end simultaneously in Tampa to open the Special Olympics Florida State Summer Games on Friday, April 27. The purpose of the Law Enforcement Torch Run is two-fold. First, it brings media and public attention to the Law Enforcement/Correctional Community and Special Olympics Florida. Secondly, it acts as a fundraiser for the local and state Special Olympics program. The fundraising is primarily accomplished through corporate sponsorships and sale of Torch Run t-shirts and caps. The Torch Run for Washington County, including participants from Washington Correctional Institution, Chipley Probation & Parole, Washington County Sheriff's Office and Chipley Police Department, began in front of the Courthouse Friday morning, went east on Highway 90 to Highway 77, turned south on 77, and ended at I-10. |
