FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Tuesday, February 26, 2008, at approximately 1:15 p.m. Washington County Sheriff Office resource officer responded to a call at Vernon Middle School in reference to an 11 year old juvenile that had collapsed while running

track. Upon arriving on scene, the school resource officer found the

juvenile unconscious, called for emergency medical services and immediately performed CPR.

Washington County Ambulance Service, which is stationed directly across the street from the school, arrived on scene and administered emergency services. The juvenile was transported by Washington County EMS to Northwest Florida Community Hospital in Chipley. Doctors continued life-saving procedures after arriving at NFCH and after all options were exhausted the juvenile was pronounced dead.

This case is still under investigation by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and with the assistance of the medical examiner’s office, will be determining a cause of death. As additional details become available, they will be released.
