FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Suspect arrested in local burglaries

Washington County Sheriff’s Office received a call on Tuesday, November 27 in reference to a burglary in progress on Douglas Ferry Road close to Vernon .   Witnesses reported seeing a suspicious man leaving the home, getting into his vehicle and then heading towards the Vernon area.  Deputies in the area spotted a vehicle that matched the description and a pursuit ensued.  After deploying the spike strips, deputies were able to stop the vehicle and take Michael Randolph Sparks, 40 year old white male, into custody.

Sparks , a career offender on state probation after being recently released from prison for burglary charges, was found in possession of approximately $2000 worth of jewelry taken from the home on Douglas Ferry Road .  A search of Spark’s vehicle revealed over $2000 worth of property taken during the burglaries of homes located in both the Hinson Cross Roads and Douglas Ferry area.  Sparks was transported to the Washington County Jail where he is being held with no bond.    Sparks ’ charges include burglary, grand theft, felony fleeing and alluding and resisting officers without violence.  Additional charges are pending.

“Attentive neighbors in the area are to be commended for the successful resolution of this case”, states Sheriff Haddock.  “ The cooperation of the community gives our office a huge advantage in keeping those responsible for these burglaries behind bars and off our streets.”
