January 9, 2008 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Local Drug Dealer Convicted Washington County Sheriff’s Office announces the conviction and subsequent sentencing of Sam Henry Griffin, 61 year old white male, from the Caryville area. Griffin, a long time, high level drug dealer, was sentenced to 30 years Department of Corrections, as well as, a $25,000 fine based on a minimum mandatory guideline for the December 2006 sale of 29.2 lbs of marijuana which lead to a conviction for drug trafficking. “Our office has made no secret of the fact we are making a strong push to remove high level distributors of illegal drugs,” states Sheriff Haddock. “A case like this takes numerous man hours by deputies and investigators who are dedicated to making this community safer not only in the immediate future, but for several years to come. This conviction is a huge victory not only for our office, but also for the Assistant State Attorney Barbara Finch and the State Attorney’s Office. It is because of their tireless commitment to convicting these drug cases that we can keep the high volume illegal drug pushers off our streets and away from our children.” In addition to the trafficking conviction, Griffin faces additional charges of delivery of a controlled substance methamphetamines, aggravated child abuse and contributing to the delinquency of a minor in cases scheduled for trial later this year. |
