FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

On Monday, April 21, 2008 Washington County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a letter received by the Washington County Clerk of Court, addressed to Judge Allen Register, that contained a white powder-type substance.  The room in which the letter was found was immediately sealed off and all of the suspicious substance was contained for testing purposes.  FDLE was called in to assist in the investigation. 

The letter was reportedly sent by Johnny D Reed, 34 year old white male, who in January of this year was sentenced in a case in which Judge Register presided, to life in prison for murder.  Reed is currently house at Florida State Prison in Stark, FL.

Bay County HAZMAT will be taking an air sample and swab of the area.  Results are expected within a few days.  This case is still under investigation by FDLE and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.  Additional details will be released as they become available.
