FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

One arrest, case closed in burglary at old Vernon High School

In the early morning hours of Friday, June 22, 2007, Washington County Sheriff’s Office received information that a burglary had occurred at the old Vernon High School .  Construction workers involved with the remodeling of the school reported over $5,000 in copper wiring had been stolen from the school over night.  Following the report, a resident in the Vernon area called in a tip in reference to a man seen with copper wire in his vehicle.  The resident confronted the man, who in turn, fled the scene in his vehicle.  Several deputies and investigators were dispatched to the area and found Montana Windsor, 23 year old white male, in the process of discarding the copper wire into a wooded area near Church Street in Vernon .  Deputies took Windsor into custody and charged him with grand theft and burglary.  Windsor is currently being held at the Washington County Jail on a $10,000 bond.  All property reported stolen in the burglary was recovered.

Right now, I have put the deputies and investigators on notice that the burglaries being committed in our county are unacceptable and have assigned staff whose primary focus is the resolution of these burglary cases” states Sheriff Haddock.  “As in this case involving Old Vernon High School , we have had great success in finding our suspects and recovering property with tips from residents watching out for suspicious activity.  We hope the community will continue to have zero tolerance for those who victimize their neighbors and report anything they believe could help in resolving a case."
